: Großer Redoutensaal

Grosser Redoutensaal

The elegant ballrooms of Empress Maria Theresa were extensively renovated and modernised in 1992 after a fire. Today, past and present go hand-in-hand. This historic hall served as the setting for many profoundly important historic events: Mozart operas, the debut performance of Beethoven’s 8th symphony, works by Franz Liszt and Josef Strauss. In the 20th century, it provided a unique venue for the summit meeting between then-US President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. Today, it is noted for the imposing paintings by Josef Mikl that decorate its walls. It is equipped with sophisticated event technology for congresses, festive gala dinners and presentations.
